On January 4th, 2014, 26 year old Malina Pereza (mother of 3 year old Mahiehie and newly married wife of Kimo) was rushed to the emergency room at Wilcox Hospital in Lihue, Kauai. She had been sent home from the ER earlier in the week with doctors thinking she just had the flu. However, after doing blood work early Sunday morning, it was revealed that her white blood count was over 100,000 (normal is 4,000-10,000). She was then immediately medi-vac’d to the hospital in Honolulu. Malina spent the next three days battling fevers, infections, bone marrow biopsies, and numerous blood draws and transfusions while doctors worked to diagnose her condition. She has been diagnosed with the Acute Myeloid Leukemia Stage M4, which is life threatening.
In response to the countless inquiries from people that know and love Malina so dearly and are willing and wanting to help in any way possible, we have set up an account at First Hawaiian Bank to help with the incredible expenses that are associated with battling this disease. If you would like to donate, please do so by copying and pasting this link into your browser and paying via credit card:
or go into any First Hawaiian Bank branch and deposit into the Friends of Malina Pereza Account (#51-069706).
For those of you who know Malina, she is strong, vibrant and full of life and has been a blessing to so many of us. Many of us just can’t believe that something like this could happen to her. Malina’s strength, spirit and positive attitude through this whole situation is a true inspiration to all of us.
Prayers and donations are greatly appreciated.
