Adventures and Activities on the Garden Isle

Kauai offers an abundance of choices when it comes to activities on your Hawaii vacation. Here we present eleven fun things to see and do for a memorable Kauai visit.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding – It’s new, it’s fun, and it’s easy! In calm water areas even beginners will be standing up and paddling around with ease. Big stable boards make learning a breeze, and once you hone your skills a bit you can explore different areas and even try to ride a wave.

Ziplining – Soaring through the treetops in jungle valleys and visiting backcountry swimming holes are highlights of the zipline experience. It’s a thrilling adventure, easy to do, and a great way to see places you might not otherwise visit on Kauai.

Ke’e Beach, Kauai. Spend a day here. Hike, swim, snorkel, relax!

Snorkeling – Explore the underwater world from the beach or from a snorkeling boat tour excursion. Young and old alike will enjoy shallow snorkeling areas while those who are experienced can explore deeper seas with caves and caverns that are home to a surprising array of sea life. You will be amazed at the diversity of fish and other marine life thriving on Kauai’s coral reefs.

Sunset on the Balcony of the St. Regis – Overlooking Hanalei Bay and the verdant north shore mountains, the balcony setting of this Princeville resort is the perfect place to sip a cocktail and watch the sun dip below the horizon of this tropical wonderland.

See the Na Pali Coast – A truly unforgettable experience is seeing the cathedral peaks and deep, ancient valleys along a 15-mile stretch of Kauai’s western shoreline known as the Na Pali Coast. One of Earth’s natural wonders, the Na Pali is a rough and rugged region of steep cliffs rising directly up from the sea into pinnacles, spires and deeply furrowed mountains. You can see the Na Pali from offshore on a boat, hike in (permit required), or fly above it all on a helicopter tour. Another great Na Pali view is from the Kalalau Lookout at Kokee State Park.

See the North Shore Beaches – On Kauai you can find beautiful beaches all around the island, and the north shore is lined with some of the very best. Starting in Kilauea town and going west: Secret Beach, Kalihiwai Bay, Anini Beach, Hanalei Bay, Lumahai Beach, Makua Beach (Tunnels) and Kee Beach could all top any “best beaches” list. Lush north shore scenery, golden sand and shimmering blue waters make these spots a beach lover’s dream. Take a drive along the north shore and stop at each of these pristine coastal areas.

Visit Waimea Canyon and Kokee State Park – Driving up the from Waimea town on the west side along the rim of Waimea Canyon provides spectacular canyon views along the way and at several lookout points. At the top of the mountain is Kokee State Park where you can choose from dozens of hiking trails either into the canyon or along ocean bluffs with great views of the Na Pali Coast and the blue Pacific.

Go On An Ocean Excursion – Snorkeling, dolphins and island views await you on a Kauai boat tour. During the winter months you can see humpback whales breaching from the water and then landing in a thunderous splash. These gentle giants spend summers in Alaskan waters and migrate to Hawaii during winter to mate and give birth. Boat tours often encounter spinner dolphins which like to ride in the bow waves of the boats. Sometimes large dolphin pods are seen with many leaping from the water doing acrobatic flips and spins. Snorkeling excursions visit thriving coral reefs and secluded bays ideal for viewing fish and other sea life.

Hike to Hanakapiai Beach and Valley – The first two miles of the trail along the Na Pali Coast is a great day hike where you can catch a glimpse of the wonders of the Na Pali Coast. The trail begins at one of Kauai’s most beautiful beaches, Kee Beach at the end of the road on the north shore. After your hike enjoy a refreshing swim and snorkel around the coral reef to see interesting marine life.

Do One Activity You Wouldn’t Normally Do! – Kauai offers a wide range of activities so surprise yourself with something out of the ordinary. Mountain tubing is a fun way to see the backcountry, or go on an ATV ride on the mountain trails. Horseback riding, skydiving, scuba diving, ziplining, a helicopter tour – surprise yourself with how fun it can be to try something new in one of the most beautiful places on Earth!

Pamper Yourself – You’re on vacation so why not go the extra mile to treat yourself well with a luxurious spa treatment. Enjoy a Hawaiian-style massage, facial or tropical aromatherapy. From resort spas to professional home service, Kauai is a great place to pamper yourself and rejuvenate.
