We did a mountain bike descent down to Miloli’i Valley ridge recently. To give some perspective, this photo is about 2,000 feet above the beach/ocean. You can’t bike to the very edge (well, you could if you were insanely crazy) but you can hike to this point. When you do, you’re provided an exhilarating view. We saw whales frolicking in the distance, sail boats gliding by and a beautiful view of Miloli’i Valley and the Na Pali coast.
Miloli’i Valley is only accessible by boat. It is one of two legal kayak landing spots on the entire Na Pali coastline, the other being Kalalau Valley. Camping with permits is allowed during the summer months, however you can land there for the day without permits. We camped there years ago on a kayak adventure. It was us, the stars, the sky and the goats. (Yes, Kauai is home to wild goats. You can hear them before you can see them most of the time.) There is also a lovely short hike into the valley itself. The maximum length of stay allowed is three (3) consecutive nights in Miloli’i.
This trip and photo was from a mountain bike descent from Koke’e. The ascent, not so much fun – but a heck of a workout!
