Kauai loves celebrations, gatherings, and festivals where everyone can come together and share the aloha spirit! Here are some great upcoming Kauai celebrations.
Kauai Coconut Festival
October 2-3, 2010 – Kapaa Beach Park
An annual celebration of all things coconut, this festival includes coconut foods, crafts, games and contests. Non-stop entertainment plays on the main stage and there is also a keiki (children’s) stage.
The Kauai Coconut Festival also features cooking demonstrations by top Kauai chefs, coconut games, pie-eating contests, coconut cook-off contest and hands-on activities
Eo E Emmalani I Alakai Festival – Queen Emma Festival
October 9th, 2010, 10 am in Kokee State Park
This one day event takes place in Kokee in the lovely Kanaloahuluhulu Meadow and commemorates Queen Emma’s 1871 visit to Waimea Canyon and the Alakai Swamp.
Featuring Hawaiian music, hula dancing, cultural demonstrations, cultural exhibits and sales of local crafts and food, the Queen Emma festival also includes a royal procession. At twelve noon “Queen Emma” rides into the meadow on horseback. Joining hula halau from throughout Hawaii will be hula groups from Japan and Europe.
Matsuri Kauai Cultural Festival
October 8-9, 2010 at Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall
This Japanese cultural festival takes place in Lihue and is sponsored by the Kauai Japanese Cultural Society. The festival features a full day of dancers, musical performances, and exhibitions of martial artists, drumming, karaoke singers, and kimon kitsuke.
Highlights include the musubi madness contest, mini bon dance, tea ceremony, origami, mochi pounding, oshibana, a tea ceremony, flower circle, and jorei. Enjoy Hawaiian music and hula as well as Japanese dance. Local crafts and food for sale.
Na Lima Hana Cultural Festival
October 21-23, 2010 at Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa – Poipu
This three-day cultural festival celebrates a diversity of cultures. Featured are Hawaiian crafts and cultural displays and demonstrations as well as a focus on traditional healing practices of Hawaii, India, China, Japan, and the Philippines.
Also offered are various health and wellness classes and an evening luau and entertainment. Many of the events are free to the public.
Kauai Veterans Day Parade
November 6, 2010 at 1 am in Kapaa, 10 am – 4 pm
The parade begins at the Kapaa Small Boat Harbor and ends at the Kapaa Beach Park and includes 60 marching units. The Kauai Veterans Day Parade includes military demonstrations, food booths, crafts, keynote speakers, and musical entertainment. This a great way to honor Kauai’s veterans!
