My late brother, Bruce Perdue

My late brother, Bruce Perdue

For me, April 22, is a day that is both happy and sad. It is a day to remember my late brother Bruce Perdue on his birthday. Bruce gave so much to the country, as a member of the armed forces, and to Kauai, as someone who always was there to help a friend or a stranger. He was loved by everyone who met him, on land or in the ocean.

When I offered my client, the seller of a custom built home he had built on Kapaka Road, the chance to choose a recipient for a 5% donation from my commission, I was excited that he chose the Kauai YMCA. This organization is the true meaning of kokua with a higher philanthropic purpose of building strong kids, strong families and strong communities. It is also something that would have meant a lot to Bruce and so giving this donation on his birthday seemed particularly meaningful.

Going forward I’ve made the commitment to donate 5% of my commission from each transaction to the local nonprofit of my client’s choice. It’s my way to honor my brother’s spirit, my family, and the spirit of giving that makes Kauai so special.
