On Saturday, September 4th, Sean Ahearn and Barbara Sloan were the guests of Wayne J. Rapozo at the 6th Annual Aloha ‘Ike Fundraiser at the Kauai Marriott Resort & Beach Club in Lihue. Wayne was a “Gold Sponsor” of the event, which featured “An Evening with Senator Daniel K. Inouye” and “A Celebration of Student Achievement”. Senator Inouye recently became President Pro Tempore, which makes him 3rd in line of succession to the Presidency. The Honorable Senator regaled the audience with tales of growing up on Kauai in Hanapepe and his work in the Senate on behalf of Kauai. His presentation was full of wisdom and humor, wryly delivered and entertaining for the 500 patrons who were present.
The event raised $117,000 for the Aloha ‘Ike Program. Aloha ‘Ike means, “to love learning” and through this love of learning, Kauai’s children can grow and prosper in their own community. Aloha ‘Ike provides private grants to projects that supplement academic programs in any Kauai public, private and charter school serving grades K-12. Administered by the Kauai Economic Development Board (KEDB), Aloha ‘Ike is a partnership between the Department of Education and the Community.
